Sabrient's research team is headed by David Brown, former NASA scientist and retired CEO of Telescan, Inc. David provides the vision behind our quantitative research and the overall strategic direction of the firm.
A lifelong investor, David designed and developed the critically acclaimed stock search program, ProSearch, and the market timing indicator, Brown Breakout Ratio. He has documented his investing expertise in four books on investing, including All About Stock Market Strategies (McGraw-Hill, June 2002) and Cyber-Investing: Cracking Wall Street with your Personal Computer (John Wiley & Sons, 1994, 1997). He currently writes the Sabrient market letter "What the Market Wants" and manages the virtual portfolio Sabrient Investor’s Hedge.
David has taught university-level finance and security analysis courses and was named Stock Traders Almanac's Man of the Year for 1988 for "[showing] the average investor how to spot the stocks that the hottest money managers are buying." He serves on the Director's Council at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of California (Santa Barbara).
David holds a BS degree in engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA in finance from the University of Houston. He is a member of the Author's Guild.
Danny brings to Sabrient more than 30 years of experience as a chief executive officer with a background in finance, accounting (including a CPA), economics, and management. The companies he headed provided information, software, and back office services to Morgan Stanley, GE Capital, JP Morgan, Capital One and many regional financial services companies.
Danny also has extensive experience in community service has been in the areas of public education, economic development and environmental improvement. Current and past positions include the Dean’s Council, Gevirtz Graduate School of Education at UC Santa Barbara; President of the Paso del Norte Foreign Trade Association (El Paso, Texas; Commissioner for Colleges and Universities for the 21st Century for the State of Texas; Co-Chair of the Educational Summit for El Paso, Texas; Director of the Science & Technology Council for the State of Texas; Director of the Texas-Mexico Border Task Force for the State of Texas; and Co-chair of the Paso Del Norte Infrastructure Collaborative that consists of 40 organizations from West Texas, Southern New Mexico, and Juarez, Mexico.
Danny holds a BBA in Accounting and an MS in economics from the University of Texas (El Paso).
Scott focuses on institutional sales, marketing, business development, client relations, and product development, including models for ETFs, UITs, and structured products, quantitative portfolio strategies for hedge funds, and actionable content for discount brokers. He also handles direct sales for a large global region on behalf of subsidiary Gradient Analytics’ forensic accounting research.
Scott writes the weekly Sector Detector market letter for Sabrient’s blog and other syndication sites, and he is an experienced trader of stocks, options, and ETFs. His prior experience includes operations management, strategic planning, engineering design, and consulting, including various technical, analytical, and managerial positions with Chevron Corp.
Scott holds BS and MS degrees in civil engineering from the University of Arizona, and an MBA from California State University-Hayward
Brent Miller has served Gradient in various senior-level capacities since 2003 and has extensive experience in both equity analysis and product development. In his current role, Brent is responsible for overseeing Gradient’s research process and managing both the analyst and business development functions at Gradient.
Brent earned an MBA from Arizona State University's WP Carey School of Business and also holds undergraduate degrees in Economics and Political Science from ASU. He is also a CFA charterholder.
At Sabrient, Dr. Russell leverages scientific and statistical methodology to create reliable investment strategies.Prior to joining Sabrient, he worked for the University of California where he designed algorithms for optimal estimation on large scale sensor networks and created simulations to verify estimation algorithms.
Dr. Russell has held various positions as an engineer in the aerospace and defense industry, including at Tethers Unlimited Inc., Lockheed Martin and The Army Research Laboratory.
He earned a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering, an MS degree in electrical and computer engineering, and an MA degree in economics from the University of California. He holds a BS degree from the University of Washington.
Nick Gibbons, a Certified Fraud Examiner, has been with Gradient since 2004. He has focused on developing Gradient’s methodologies for detecting and assessing earnings quality related risks exhibited by domestic and international companies and was a primary architect of the Earnings Quality Rank (EQR) model.
Nick received his undergraduate degree in Finance from the W.P. Carey School of Business and is a graduate of Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University. Nick is an Adjunct Professor of Finance and Accounting at Thunderbird School of Global Management where he teaches financial statement analysis.
Jeff manages the technical product development for Sabrient and Gradient Analytics. He has extensive experience as an IT project manager in several industries and multiple countries. Over the past 20 years he has served as project manager either on staff or as an independent contractor for, among others, Dell, Deloitte Consulting, IDEAglobal, AMD, Administaff, National Western Life Insurance, the US Department of State, and the US Department of Defense.
Jeff holds a BS degree in computer science from Texas A&M University and an MBA from the University of Houston.
Rick is in charge of Sabrient's IT operations. He has 40 years of experience in information technology, both as a software developer and software development manager. He began working with computers in 1968, while a student at Creighton University, in Omaha Nebraska. He was with Telescan, Inc. for 14 years, nine of which were spent managing Telescan’s Host Development Group. Most recently, Rick spent five years as a consultant and software developer for the Citadel Investment Group in Chicago.
Sandra is in charge of corporate communications. She also one of Sabrient's founders. Her background spans more than twenty years in advertising, investor relations, and corporate communications. She is a coauthor, with David Brown, of four books on investing, including All About Stock Market Strategies (McGraw-Hill, June 2002) and Cyber-Investing: Cracking Wall Street with your Personal Computer (John Wiley & Sons, 1994, 1997). In 1997 she founded CyberInvest.com, which was named as one of the Web's top financial portals by Forbes and Fortune magazines.
Sandra holds a BA degree in English from the University of Houston.
