Sabrient's research team is headed by David Brown, former NASA scientist and retired CEO of Telescan, Inc. David provides the vision behind our quantitative research and the overall strategic direction of the firm. He also writes the market letter What the Market Wants and manages the virtual portfolios Sabrient Investor’s Hedge and Earnings Busters 26,
A lifelong investor, David designed and developed the critically acclaimed stock search program, ProSearch, and the market timing indicator, Brown Breakout Ratio. He has documented his investing expertise in four books on investing, including All About Stock Market Strategies (McGraw-Hill, June 2002) and Cyber-Investing: Cracking Wall Street with your Personal Computer (John Wiley & Sons, 1994, 1997). David has taught university-level finance and security analysis courses and was named Stock Traders Almanac's Man of the Year for 1988 for "[showing] the average investor how to spot the stocks that the hottest money managers are buying."
David holds a BS degree in engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA in finance from the University of Houston. He is a member of the Author's Guild.
As president of Sabrient, Scott guides strategic expansion, tactical refinements, and communications outreach for each of Sabrient’s five core business units, which include Index Creation for ETF distribution; Custom Strategy Products for professional brokers and money managers; Retail Services and Publishing, and Institutional Retail. He also writes the Dark Horse Traders’ Hedge market letter for Sabrient’s blog.
Prior to his tenure as president of Sabrient, Scott headed the Sabrient’s product development and marketing for individual/retail investors. His professional background includes sales and marketing leadership for Telescan, Inc. a developer of stock research tools; corporate development for financial services companies; and management of a real estate development firm.
Scott holds a BS degree in business administration from the University of Houston.
Dr. Vickrey oversees and manages all analyst-driven content at Gradient Analytics, and was the primary creator of Earnings Quality Analytics. He is widely known for his research on earnings quality, market inefficiencies, and corporate insider trading behavior, with published articles in academic and practitioner journals, such as the Financial Analysis Journal, Journal of Accounting, Auditing & Finance, Journal of Financial Statement Analysis, and Abacus. He is regularly quoted as an expert in various national print media.
Since 1996, Dr. Vickrey has also directed the development of a variety of quantitative models and portfolio evaluation systems for Gradient's institutional clients. Dr. Vickrey is a former tenured professor at the University of San Diego where he taught financial accounting, auditing and financial statement analysis. He also owns minority interests in several private firms spanning a wide array of industries.
Dr. Vickrey holds a Ph.D. in accounting from Oklahoma State University, a master's degree in accounting from the University of Tulsa, and an undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Tulsa. Dr. Vickrey is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
Scott focuses on institutional sales, marketing, business development, client relations, and product development, including models for ETFs, UITs, and structured products, quantitative portfolio strategies for hedge funds, and actionable content for discount brokers. He also handles direct sales for a large global region on behalf of subsidiary Gradient Analytics’ forensic accounting research.
Scott writes the weekly Sector Detector market letter for Sabrient’s blog and other syndication sites, and he is an experienced trader of stocks, options, and ETFs. His prior experience includes operations management, strategic planning, engineering design, and consulting, including various technical, analytical, and managerial positions with Chevron Corp.
Scott holds BS and MS degrees in civil engineering from the University of Arizona, and an MBA from California State University-Hayward
Jeff manages the technical product development for Sabrient and Gradient Analytics. He has extensive experience as an IT project manager in several industries and multiple countries.
Over the past 20 years he has served as project manager either on staff or as an independent contractor for, among others, Dell, Deloitte Consulting, IDEAglobal, AMD, Administaff, National Western Life Insurance, the US Department of State, and the US Department of Defense.
Jeff holds a BS degree in computer science from Texas A&M University and an MBA from the University of Houston.
Sandra is in charge of corporate communications. She also one of Sabrient's founders. Her background spans more than twenty years in advertising, investor relations, and corporate communications.
She is a coauthor, with David Brown, of four books on investing, including All About Stock Market Strategies (McGraw-Hill, June 2002) and Cyber-Investing: Cracking Wall Street with your Personal Computer (John Wiley & Sons, 1994, 1997). In 1997 she founded CyberInvest.com, which was named as one of the Web's top financial portals by Forbes and Fortune magazines.
Sandra holds a BA degree in English from the University of Houston.
Rick is in charge of Sabrient's IT operations. He has 40 years of experience in information technology, both as a software developer and software development manager.
He began working with computers in 1968, while a student at Creighton University, in Omaha Nebraska. He was with Telescan, Inc. for 14 years, nine of which were spent managing Telescan’s Host Development Group. Most recently, Rick spent five years as a consultant and software developer for the Citadel Investment Group in Chicago.
Brent has been tenured with Gradient Analytics, a Sabrient subsidiary, since 2003. He has extensive experience in both equities analysis and product development, having lead several successful projects at Gradient.
He has an MBA from Arizona State University's WP Carey School of Business and also holds undergraduate degrees in economics and political science from Arizona State University.
At Sabrient, Dr. Russell leverages scientific and statistical methodology to create reliable investment strategies.Prior to joining Sabrient, he worked for the University of California where he designed algorithms for optimal estimation on large scale sensor networks and created simulations to verify estimation algorithms.
Dr. Russell has held various positions as an engineer in the aerospace and defense industry, including at Tethers Unlimited Inc., Lockheed Martin and The Army Research Laboratory.
He earned a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering, an MS degree in electrical and computer engineering, and an MA degree in economics from the University of California. He holds a BS degree from the University of Washington.
